The cost of flood-related damages can be astronomically high even when floodwaters are only an inch or two deep. Many property owners do not have this kind of money set aside in a savings account, so any damage may be enough to cause financial ruin. Additionally, while the numbers might suggest that the chance for a flood is low, all it takes is one storm to make that chance a certainty.
